Anybody no where I can get a few Taylor floats? I don't want to make them myself. ???

Do seagulls, herons, etc. get at the oysters? Looks like it needs an additional mesh top to prevent that.  Several years ago, I lived in a condo with a long pier that went out into the sound.  I was the volunteer association dockmaster. One day, I was doing some dock repair and noticed a lot of broken scallop shells scattered all over the dock.  Of course, I assumed someone had been scalloping and hadn't cleaned up after themselves.  As I was working, I heard a loud noise behind me, like a rock hitting the dock. I assumed it was one of the condo brats throwing rocks at me because of my personality but I couldn't see anyone.  I kept working and it happened two or three more times. I needed some more tools for the job so I walked back to my condo. When I returned I could see several sea gulls diving into the shallow water off the dock and then flying high up over it with somethnig in their beaks.  They would drop whatever it was onto the dock and then swoop down and either land and eat it or pick it up do it again. They were picking up scallops from the shallow water and then flying up and dropping them on the dock to crack them open. If the shell did crack, they would land and eat the scallop inside. If it didn't they would keep doing it until it did crack. Amazing.

Yes there is a mesh top.  Mainly to protect the spat until they get larger.  Also need a top to keep racoons, etc out.

Jack I added the piece to the top but didn't know how you wanted it to be secured.  They should float I followed the directions you found.
