I used to frequent this site back before it got a face lift.  I bought a home and thus got side tracked for most of last summer.  Most of my crabbing is done in either Tuckerton, NJ or East Moriches, NY (Long Island).  I live in Danbury CT and unfortunately for me and my family we don't have any salt water areas to crab.  So being  diehards we travel at least once a month to crab, driving up to 3.5 hours one way to get to our spots.

However, today I did a little scouting and found a place on the CT side of the sound that the locals claim is excellant for crabbing.  The legal size is 5" and 6" is very common.

After doing some research I discovered I do not need a license but the regulations state you can leave no traps unattended.  Now here is my question can I drop a crab pot in the area I am crabbing and pick it up before I leave for the day or you think the crab pot in  illegal.

hey crabster, i highly doubt that you can put out a pot if your not even allowed to leave traps unattended, but i know people who just put the pot off the side of their boat with all of the traps.  If you go to the home page of this site, you can pull up rules and regulations, then you can go to CT and so on to find the rules.

crabster, welcome back. i remember you way back when i was a lurker before i joined this site.

remember...nothings illegal unless you get caught. you could very easily drop the pot off somewhere and pick it up later without being noticed. thats what i'd do.  just my two cents...

looking forward to your posts this summer

Hey guys ........ come on now ....... you know we can't have that kind of an attitude on this site with others reading what we say.

(Kids ---- newbies, etc).

Ya may feel like doing that, but I think most of you would agree that it just takes a little extra effort to find out the regulations and follow them!!!!!!!

Or you may be right ----- say "^%#  it"    and do what feels good!!!

:-X :-X :-X

I dunno.  Seems like every time I've done that it ends up turning out bad.  But then again I could never get away with anything.........

Pots are illegal in ct.

Then why do they sell them to people in Cabelas in Hartford without warning people? It's like selling shotguns in a state without a shotgun season! Here ya' go.....have a nice day....and remember, don't use it. Just look at it. >:(
