Its been blowning all night down here.  Have not seen a goose for days and days.  Was a pair of woodies out by the pier last night just before dark.  By the time I got my gun and got out there they were gone.  :(

mental note jack.. keep gun handy them woodies are a first light bird.. early flyer...  very tasty too.. kinda nutty and sweet...them and mallards, pintail, gadwall, widgeon are very good, black duck the best...

Took a walk down the Creek.  Sure enough there are about 70 geese in the no hunting area.  Hunkered down from the wind.  Sent the dog in but they wouldn't get up.  Just swam further up the creek.  Guess the wind is just to strong for them to fly down here today.  :(

Well I dunno much about geese hunting except for what I have been reading.
Doesn't look easy to say the least.
I haven't shot trap in over 3...... shoot maybe 4 years.

I'll just be happy to be out.   One tip I read was make sure the tip of your barrel is taking up no mote then half the bird (about 45 yards) which is far range.

For beginners keep the end of that barrel at about the size of one quarter the goose or less.

Sound like good information?
I am going with some seasoned guys so I am sure they will guide me correctly.
What a great opportunity!!!

I'll let ya know how I do.

....just point at the goose and pull the trigger. If you think too much, you'll miss. They are slow and very large targets, especially if your hunting with people that can land them in your spread. Have fun....Good Luck!!!

Man the geese are thick down the shore right now.  man we torn em up this past saturday.  6 gunners got our limit in less than 45 minutes on several groups of birds.  then we had a nice luncheon on the farm for all the guys in the club.  Farmer converted his corn crib to  a tavern...complete with fulll bar, kegarator, liquor, TV, wood stove and gas sotve and dart board..... swet little set up.. here is a littel of the menu.

bushel of oysters raw and grilled
oyster stew form Fisherman's inn
homeade crab soup - buddy's not mine
beer brats w/onions in yeungling - my speciality...
venison sloppy joes - brothers
marinade venison steak and roast grill - my marinade
marinade venison tenderloin - buddy's marinade
deer bologna and cheese - Twin Pines and Ilyeses
2 smoked geese from fraise's
smokey hotdogs - You guys gotta try the new ballpark Angus beef hotdog they are awesome on the grill
homemade pumpkin pipes -  ;D
soda, beer, and some crown royal might of even popped out...  ate so much my stomach hurt til the next day...... nice day great hunt, great food and good friends... one day afield I will remember for a while...

then saw atelase another 1,000- 1,500 birds last night flying south.... this harsh cold front has pushed em so should be good waterfowling thorugh jan.... if this holds up...

You said it Dog. Saw many flocks this weekend headed south. Definitely weren't the local geese. These were the high flyers. Could barely even see some of them they were so high. Low cloud deck that day too.

Well we got out and I got a goose ;-)

We stuffed it with apples onion celery and marinade it over night with red wine fresh terragon and thyme and some other "secret" spices.

about 2 hours covered at 325 then finishing uncovered for about twenty.

I hope it works.

I WILL get my boat out next year!
