I been catfishing all my life so I can post something on here and not feel so lost. There are many rigs out there but I use the slip rig

Not sure if I am posting the photo on here right but it is a photo of 4 different rigs. Again, I use the slip rig. If the photo did not work you can search on the internet and get a photo of the slip rig. The reason I like it is because the catfish can take the bait and run with it a little bit. If the catfish feels anything odd then he lets the bait go. Circle hooks work great with the slip rig. If you are fishing with strong current I would use and 2 or 3 oz weight but if there is little current then I would use 1/2 to 1 oz weight. I leader should be 12" to 18" long.

If the water temp is below 50 then you will have to find the catfish because they are in deeper holes and will not leave those holes. After the temp gets above 50 then they will start heading out of these holes and will hunt for food. They will hit the shallow waters. A good place to look it at the mouth of creeks and stream that go into the main body of water.

As for bait. There is so much to use. You can use chicken liver, hot dogs, cut bait, stink bait, dip bait, Cheese bait, shrimp, minnows, and just about anything that stinks. I use cut bait if I have it. I use cut bluegill, shad, skipjack. A lot of the time I don't have it so I will use chicken Liver or Shrimp. Cut bait works best for me.

Here are a couple of bait recipes that may help that are very easy if you don't want to use cut bait.

red dogs:

ingredients
hot dogs (any kind)
koolaid
garlic salt
zip lock bag

Instructions
(1)   cut hot dogs in 1 inch pieces (2) boil in red water, (koolaid) (3) put garlic salt into zip lock bag and add hot dogs (4) shake it up and put it in the ice box for a day or till you go out fishing

Garlic Livers:

Ingredients
tub of liver
garlic powder

Instructions
all you need is a tub of liver and garlic powder . you can do it two different ways you can put the garlic directly in the container and let it sit for a day then fish  or you can put the liver in the sun and add the garilc powder let it sit until its dry then fish . they will tear it up.

garlic shrimp:

Ingredients
1 lbs bag large raw white shrimp.
Garlic salt.

Instructions
Get shrimp frozen and sprinkle garlic salt on them and let sit in the sun for a few hours and take fishing

Also, I don't usually pimp a product. Just not my thing but look at getting Katjuice (Search on the internet). This stuff works. I had been hearing great things about it but never tried it. I won it on a different site and have used it a few times and the action is none stop. Again, I don't pimp products but this is the exception. I think this guy is from Kentucky.

If you have any other questions feel free to PM me and I will try my best to answer them.

I'd rather eat the garlic shrimp myself. The catfish can have the hotdogs  :  )
