OBX = Outer Banx.. = outer banks.. they actual trade marked it and I am sure you have seen bumper stickers with OBX on them.... on the vehicles flying around your planet....  anyway.. obx tourist term for the banks..

also you may see black and white stickers with 12 north or 12 south on them. .. that is route 12 = "beach road" .. north duck to corolla, whalebone up to va line = corova...etc.. south = kitty hawk, kill devils hills and nags head down to hatteras village.....Anyway... now you know.. I recommend a trip there if you like the beach, fishing, good seafood dinners and peace and quiet.....good waves, boogie boarding, fish piers and the beach sake for the beach's sake. not like ocean city MD with nothing but high rises...it has gotten built up, but still very nice and house on stilts and dunes and great beaches and lighthouses and a lot of folk lore to the area form Balck beard the pirate to the first flight by the wright brothers..... especially further south you go... Ocracoke Island won top beach in the US.. last year.  and placed third in the world.   it is an hour ferry ride south .. from Hatteras village... so that would be considered the lower banks..... so know you know...

Didn't they close most of the beaches to vehicle traffic because of a bird nesting or something?A friend of mine has taken yearly surf fishing trips to Buxton for years but because the beaches are closed to vehicles he is not going anymore.

I think they closed the beaches to vehicles because of sea turtle migration/nesting.

It was some kind of Plover birds there nesting too..   I can't believe the Hatterasmen haven't killed and ate them lil things....  They must be no good to eat..

Actually I like em like my dove breast like Gene said.  then some good bar b q suace and wrrapped in bacon...  grilled oover some smoke chips.....  bar b que plover..

yeah they did close most of the beach access except up in carova to va line to get to the houses that are 4 x 4 access only.  but Oregon inlet and most of the beach down to the cape is not open because the federal govt never created an off road acess plan.  so the tree huggers said then w/o a plan or policy you can not acces the beach until you have one.  most folks laughed.  but the courts agreeed with the tree huggers tos ave the turtle and the plover etc. and no 4 x 4 on the beach until the fedral govt comes up witha policy on 4 x 4 access on federal parks and land etc.   so that is most of hatteras and ocracoke island.  so maybe in the next 5 years the feds can write up a poilcy for access and then it will be opended back up, but I am sure it will be limited access and never like it was.  besides they got bigger issues to worry about now like total economic collapse of the stock market and business ... don't think this is going to be too high up on anyone's list....
