I just tried it and it went right to it for me, so it appears to be a good link.

Cool, I won't need bait then. Just chop you up in tiny bits. :o :o   Actually, the software at work was being upgraded this morning (still going on), and I couldn't access my main work. So, I started reading some of the other boards and got an error message first. It was interesting reading another states take on the rules and regs, even terminology. I think the La. rules called a female with eggs, as having berries. I think my farthest trip this year is going to be the Chessie.

When the law says "only 6 traps can be fished at a time" does that mean per person or per group. ex. Two people go crabbing. Can they have 12 traps or only 6?

I thought this thread was about snow goose decoys... :'(

The Texas Regs indicate the following Legal Devices and Restrictions for taking crabs:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Crab Line:
A baited line with no hook attached.
No restrictions.

Does this mean that a crab trotline is legal to use on weekends?  Fishing trotlines must be removed from most saltwater bays from 1 PM on Fridays until 1 PM on Sundays of each week.  Has anyone from Texas ever had to convince a game warden that their trotline with snoods was not a trotline?

For each person that has a Texas recreational fishing license with a saltwater stamp you can have 6 crab traps.

ex. Four people = 24 traps.   :)
When a man picks up a crab pot for the first time, he may not know, he has been born again.

I had a question concerning Texas Regs. I live in Laredo, Texas which is only 3 hours from Corpus Christi area. I have been wanting to take my daughter over there to do some crabbing. I noticed the 6 crab trap per person in the TPWD regs but does that also include Folding Panel traps? It seemed to me they were talking about the trap/pot with culling rings etc. From what I read on this site several people in other states can use multiple folding panel traps. I was thinking of picking up 15 of Captain Bruces traps but if they are also restricted to 6 per person 12 is all I will need. I figure my daughter and I can toss out 12 and hand line chicken neck a bunch.

Also if any of you know some good spots to go crabbing in Baffin Bay, Corpus Christi to Port Aransas area please give me some advice. As far as a boat, all I have is a 14' Tracker with a 9.9 Mercury. I feel pretty safe on it hanging close to shore in the intercoastal area. I am pretty familiar with the intercoastal area near Mustang Island, Oso Bay and some of the Baffin Bay area.

Humm where did you see no limit on folding traps?  :juggle2: I read  "Only 6 crab traps at a time may be fished for non-commercial purposes"??  :juggle:

CraigFos

The only regulations on folding traps are:

Folding Panel Traps
Only crabs may be taken.
Overall surface area (including panels) may not exceed 16 square feet.

The definition of a crab trap is different than a folding trap.

I have a question about this:
"Must be marked with a white floating buoy not less than 6 inches in height, 6 inches in length and 6 inches in width, bearing a 2-inch wide center stripe of contrasting color, attached to the crab trap."

Where can one purchase such a buoy? Every buoy I have seen is too small (5" round) or lacks the required contrasting color.
