Will be visiting Corolla July 13-20th and want to go crabbing with the family.  Anyone recommend a good spot and should I bother buying a trap or just go with a line?  thanks

Several years ago I stayed at the Inn at Corolla Light (http://www.corolla-inn.com) with my wife and kids. They have a very nice pier which juts out into the Currituck Sound which (I believe) is open to the public... I saw several people crabbing from the pier (using handlines). You should call just to make sure it's open to the public.

Also, the Corolla Bait and Tackle shop (http://www.corollabaitandtackle.com) sells/rents crab traps... you might want to give them a call to see where the local (public) crabbing spots are located.

Good luck!!
