Hi all,i just moved to the Ocala area in Florida from Ohio.I crabbed a few times as a child here and love crab. Ive been looking into Lake George and hear it has a comercial fishery.I have a 14 ft. boat and am looking into getting the 5 trap maximum to set in the lake like everyother weekend on a camping trip.New to the area and it is something i would really enjoy.Any tips at all would be very helpful.Or r there anyother closer places?I have 4 pull up traps also..need the info and no one localy crabs.

They do have some crabs there at times but I wouldn't even pull a 14' boat around that lake on the Hy much less put it in the water, plenty of crabs on the west coast right now,Crystal River/Cedar Key area and you can only have 5 traps total in the water per licensed person, pull up or commercial style pot or a mix of both.

I'm thinking of starting crabbing in Lake George. I'm used to crabbing off the Harbour Town docks in Hilton Head, SC. Live in Ormond Beach now, and want to bring back my old hobby. It's been a few months since you posted, have you had much luck with the crabbing in Lake George? I'm thinking of going to the only dock I see on Google Earth on the east side of the lake. How has your luck been? Thanks!

I have tried crabbing in lake george, but havnt caught anything there. Maybe I just tried it at the wrong time there. I think it was the end of may. We didnt catch a single crab, but we got to see a bunch of gators, and a few alligator gar were swimming around near the boat.

If your in Ormond Beach you've got some good spot near you. Give these spots a shot, I've caught crabs in all the locations. Try Sanchez Park, it has a feeder creek that feeds the Tomoka River. High tide is best here as it gets almost to shallow at low.  Also try bridge on North Beach St. that crosses the Tomoka River. You'll need long lines on your traps for this spot. One of the best spots is north on North Beach/Old Dixie Hwy. toward Flagler county to Walter Boardman Ln. Make a right and go to where Bulow Creek crosses you can crab from the landing or bridge. If you head east toward the ocean from there make a right on High Bridge Rd. and you can find more spots along this road which will take you back to A1A for your return trip to town. No need to travel to Lake George, but I must say those Lake George crabs can be huge and worth the trip if you get on them. Good Luck and post if you go try any of these spots.

Are there even any crab in ormond beach now a days? I know that the crab have been gone from the daytona area due to dregding of the bay, and ormond is pretty close to daytona. Have you been there lately to catch any, or are you not sure? I see the big fishing pier under route 40. Are there any other spots then or no?

Due to health issues I've not been crabbing this season, but I caught them there last year. Not by the bushel, but a few dozen keepers each trip. I've not ventured as far north as SR 40, unsure of that area. Good luck and post if you find some, I'm hoping to be up to a trip soon.

Sorry, Got the wrong SR, never crabbed the bridge at SR 40, thought you were asking about the bridge on SR 20 near Palatka the crosses the St. Johns before it dumps into Lake George.

Yeah, I've been up to lake george. Nice place and all. We rented a skiff boat and went out, but we didnt catch a single crab, so I havnt bothered to try there again. I'm heading out to a few spots inbetween titusville and Cocoa beach in a few hours once the tide starts to change, so hopefully I get some. Supposed to be a scorcher today though. 95 without the heat index. Ugh.

Got a few spots around Titusville and Merrit Island I'll share with you if interested. Good luck and let me know how you do.

many years ago i bought crabs at salt spring run....it feeds into lake george.  they were the biggest, most beautiful color crabs that i have ever seen........but they had no taste ......living in fresh water,i was told..

Thats where I went was salt spring run. I rented a skiff with a couple buddies of mine. I would love a few spots to go out crabbing if you have any too please. I tried merritt island and titusville but only caught stone crab.
