Before BCA would have been Old Bay, grew up with it.  HOWEVER since finding this site JO #2 all the way.  I doubt I will like another crab seasoning better.  Something about the salt content giving me a head rush and the spices that go so well together.  If I want something different I either put more or less while steaming or dip some fresh JO beside me as I pick.  nom nom nom...

MD based company.    Should be available near you.

It is probably not sold near the rock I live under. I checked the market nearby and they had Old Bay and Zatarain's Crab Boil but not JO. Go figure. But the search is on. Off to the son's place on the Outer Banks this weekend so hope to call ahead and locate some crabs to try it on.

Go to their website, get their number, call them and ask where in your area you can get the product.

Or better yet, order it from JO directly and have them ship it out.

Might well give them a ring for a seller in this area. While it may be better for their business to order direct it won't encourage their distribution network to expand if I don't buy locally. I am still puzzled as to why I haven't heard of it in all these years if their product is as good as folks here say, which I'm sure it is. Poor marketing?

Can you give us a better location other than SW Chesepeake?  I am in the SoMd area and usually have 100 lbs or so of #2 on hand.  Most of the crab houses also use it and I know they have a truck that comes down into my area.  Buying it directly from them is a little more expensive compared to a retailer but if that is the only way you can get it and that is what you want, then most will pay the price.

Called JO. Sam Rust's Seafood in Hampton has it but is a wholesaler. Bingo. Called them to find out who they distribute to..... a seafood house in Va. Beach, and Carawan's Seafood on the Outer Banks. I will be driving past there in the morning so problem solved.
Pretty slim pickings if they are as good as posters here say.

The thing with JO is they custom blend for the seafood houses.  As for the retail, its all the same blend.  I add stuff to mine to make it "my blend" as do many others.  The other thing is it's cheap compared to Old Bay.  Where I get mine at (Ameriens in Joppa Md), we pay about $65 for 75 lbs of it.

Bounce around between three styles, Obryckis recipe,..... JO 2,.... and when picking crabs for crabcakes I boil them for the better meat texture.

Obryckis style is totally different from Old Bay or JO taste. Like to change it up like some others here.
Say brother....can you spare a crab...

OMG.. I can't believe they are still around. :o  I can remember my Mom and Dad taking us there.  Can remember my Dad taking me with him to get a dozen steamed crabs to bring home. Gad that had to be in the 50's... Funny.. I can still smell the smells in that row house... 8)

They shut the Balt one down a year or so ago. At the Arundel mills mall now.

Whats their base?
It has a more peppery taste than a salt taste.
That would be a neat contest on here. Guess Obryckis crab seasoning recipe. I heard the old man sold the recipe as a separate deal when he let the restaurant on Pratt st. go to the new owners.
My father in law used to sit out back with Joe Obrycki and drink bear with him as he steamed all the crabs.  Joe had barrels of individual spices that he would hand dip out of and season all the crabs. A handful of this, and a handful of that.
His brother Ed owned the place one block north on Lombard st, made the best fried hard crab I have ever had, cleaned a partially steamed crab, stuffed a crabcake in the cavity, and deep fried it.  The batter was delicious. Bo Brooks makes a good one, and if you have never had a crab fluff, Bo makes the best one.

I need some crabs....
Say brother....can you spare a crab...
