Got a few this morning, tried the crooked river state park first at about 0730, got skunked. Moved to city pier and got 6. Moving to Borells creek now after stopping for lunch. Will add more tonight after dinner.

Got a nice stone crab also, MAN they taste good...

Nice , enjoy em.

I did, thanks!!

Got 12 or 13 total off the dock, seemed like a slower day compared to 2 weeks ago, got a lot more of the little ones, 3-4 inchers and a lot more 2-inchers.

Watched some 12 yr old kids try to throw a 10' shrimp net off the dock... LOL

The catch...
Had 2 of them hit 7+ inches, there was fewer of the bigger ones I've seen all summer...

Nice stone crab claw too!

The knife blade itself is 4 3/4" long from tip to hilt.

Do you use handlines or traps?? I know when i catch 7+ inch crabs on a handline, its a rush.
I wish i was a crab.

I'm shorebound, so I use box traps and rings. I have 1 large pot I throw in while I'm messing about with the rest. I use chicken necks from the local butcher at 50ยข/lb, but lately I've also been using 7" sardines from the commissary to use in the large trap, I cut off the head and use them in the box traps and put the remainder in the large trap. I also make a chum line with chicken livers and gizzards, freeze it and let it thaw in a ziploc bag with holes poked in it. I try to place the large trap upstream from the rest so the scent flows over the ring and box traps.

Seems to be working well for you. Are you able to crab all winter where you live. Im in Maryland where its cold and the crabs are gone till may. I still like seeing reports and pics,so keep up the good work. I also crab from piers and use handlines, they work great. Take a chicken neck and tie it to a string and let it sit on the bottom. Pull it up slowly when you see it has something on it. Take you net and scoop the crab up,they work the best for me.

Only been crabbing this summer, I'm still a newbie. Based on what i used to catch, I can tell it's starting to taper off due to colder water. Looking at getting a Florida license so I can hit the warm waters of the Keys.

I'd like to try handlining, but everytime we go we're too busy maintaining our traps.
I'll give it a shot next time we're out, we live near valdosta so its a 2-4 hour trip to the coast hauling our camper.

It takes a little practice, but once you pick it up, you will leave the traps at home. I usually set 10 or 15 handlines and don't bother with traps. All you need is a ball of string and a dip net. Lot less work.. Good luck and enjoy. Its a lot of fun!!
