Yes i hunt with my buddies all the time. Here we are coming back after a sucessfull duck hunt last fall. The older whitebearded one laying down is my 11 year old Lab Lt. Maynard. he was named after the officer that killed Blackbeard the pirate near here in NC. The one sitting up looking like he could rip your heart out is 6 year old Beaureguard, AKA BOZO! He is a Lab/Wimeranger mix, 28 inches at the shoulder, 124 lbs of solid muscle, who is the most intense retriever/hunter I have ever seen.

Maynard is a great retriever, like many other labs, and he is even somewhat a local hero as he once retrieved two Canadian geese at one time, in front of witnesses. He did it by taking their heads in his mouth and swiming/dragging them both in together, rather than make two trips.

But BOZO does it all. He retrieves, he tracks wounded deer, he will sit super still on a stand helping to watch for deer. He squirel hunts, helping find them  and then retrieves them. He will hunt close and flush birds and rabbits. He is a typical German type all-around hunting dog, and in fact was trained by a german buddy of mine.

Jim, Bozo reminds me of a dog I had long ago.  Her name was Ady and like Bozo she was a Lab mix that did it all.  Our favorite story is my son and I were shooting geese from a pit when a flock came in. My son shot to soon but he got a solid kill and so did I.  Two down.  Being young my boy tried another shot but only crippled a goose.  It could still get about 4 feet off the ground and was heading across the county.  Ady ran it down.  When we got home we told everyone it was a good day, even Ady got a bird. ;D

My two buddy's up here in PA each have Chessie's.  Nice dogs love the cold water/ice.  I have a black lab, but she is a ding dong.. I blame my wife for spoiling her.. Of course, she was her birthday present so I can't say much.
Good dog retrieves great, just won't sit still.. she got real bad skin alergies and scratchs alot.  I mean alot.  gets shots for the alergies. etc  We hunt a lake up here in Southeast Pa for diver ducks and geese and than the lower eastern shore for duck...

Jack,
trust me I have spent more on that dog to a point of I could have bought 2 more dogs..
She is on Hill's Science Diet sensitive skin food, no wheat of any kind.
Benedryl tablets daily
did the aleregy battery of test she is off the charts for 37 of 38 aleregines
all outside grasses, weeds, and trees,   So she gets a shot once every 1-2 weeks depending on the season
also give her 3V capsules with amino acids etc.

Can't giver her oral steriod like prednisone cause she pee's everywhere and it shortens the dog's life by half.  We do spray her with genesis topical spray and that really gets her throught he tough  times in the fall.
We have been down a long road with this stuff.  I feel really sorry for her, but then I think she is lucky to have an owner willing to do anything for her to make her feel better.

trust me the alergy test and shots have cost over a thousand dollars thus far.

Depsite it all, she is a really sweet dog and I think if she wasn't so itchy she would be a great hunter.
