It figures,

my brother and one of our hunting buddy's both each took a 9 pt buck this morning in Black powder season.  said the spread was about 19 - 20 inches and each deer had a 1 down tine.  Estimated dress wieght is 170 lb or so.
My one buddy took his out of my stand.. doesn't that figure...and I decided to go crab yesterday instead... :(

I got the skinny about the size of the 2 9 pointers.

The one buddy got a nice 9 pt dressed out a 190LB...!  That is some good corn fed eastern shore deer.  Spread was 20 inches.  taken with black powder at 30 yards in my stand.  >:(  the other my brother took a neighbor boy out and let him take the other 9 pt er.  shoot at 125 yds.  dressed out at 145 LB and had more of a basket rack. not sure of the spread.  he told me it was real neat to see his young neighbor take his first deer.  Not bad for a 14 year dude, to take a 145 LB 9 pt at 125 yards with one shoot black powder.  Pretty cool....so pass it on to some younger hunters to keep our sport going...
both had a down tine in the same location so they are coming form the same gene pool....  Meanwhile I was at work hating life while they were wacking and stacking em up.

wish everyone a safe and successful season.

Amen brother.

I have taken quite few younger guys out ducking and goose hunting.  and once they had a good hunt they were hooked.  like crabbing , you have that perfect day with lots of action they become instant converts.  I am not the best deer hunter.  I have shot 3 and ran over 4 with various trucks over the past 10 years.  I actually killed a 9 pt on the same farm sitting on a bucket on the ground with a triple fractured ankle in a cast.  had only 1 shell in the gun when the deer popped up.  he had a 19 inch spread and dressed at 178 lbs.  bout killed me to clean him and dress him out with a big cast on my leg.
Yeah, it seems I hit one about every 3 years, so I am over due... which worries me.  I may just start driving my truck around the farm fields...probably be more successful..

Love it when I hear about a youth being introduced.  We really need to get the kids involved with outdoors, hunting fishing crabbing, it's all much better than most of the alternatives.

Took my 12 yo daughter out last Saturday, she got a shot at a nice doe broadside at 40 yards, it was a blast hearing her try to control her breathing. I'm not sure who got the better rush from it, her or me. She missed clean and didn't feel bad about it, she sat back and said "Dad, what's this all about" pointing to her leg shaking like crazy... I told her that was the best part of the hunt, the rush...... she is hooked and this Saturday I'll be on stand with my 9 yo son... gotta alternate between the two. Stiff compitition between them to see who gets the frst deer, the biggest rock, the most crabs, etc...... :)

Awesome.
They'll remember these times for the rest of their lives.  Great stuff.

Guys,

Good deal
got to get more kids involved is right.  All the kids now a days do is play video games and watch TV and hold out their hands for $20 bills...
No there are some good ones, but it has changed form when I gew up and the peer pressure with everything has made it hard for them, but they also have become the generation of entitlement!...Anyway, take a kid fishing, hunting crabbing hiking.. whatever.. ti is all a good thing for all of our future, let a lone the future of these sports we enjoy.
