I will get 2 deer feeders (as soon as bass pro gets them in) for fathers day.
Any ideas on how to set it up? I want to get just the feeder part and put a snap lid trash can on top. I'm hoping to hoist it with a pulley or something(maybe a 4x4 or something in the tree)
what do you guys (or gals) use?

I used a 55 gallon plastic drum.....cut a hole in the bottom and bolted the feeder to it.....then I made a stand out of rebar to sit it on.....got to have it high enough so the squirrels dont rob you.....also if you are baiting with corn...make sure it is clean, if not it will jam and not flow.....I ride up to the drum on a 4 wheeler and stand on the back to fill...

I like the bigger drum, compaired to the 5 gallon bucket, because you dont have to fill as often and spook the deer.
Also if you plan on filling in the afternoon, becareful as to when you have your timer set.....I have had them run to the feeder as soon as they hear it go off (mainly winter)you don't want to spook the deer if you can help it, they tend to become nocturnal.

I have good results early when bow hunting and late in the winter with snow....

I hang my 55 gal drums up high from a header w/ 45 brace using a pulley and steel cable.  With the 4 wheeler bumper against the tree I raise and lower with the winch.

I put 2 big eye bolt lags in the tree.  One at knee level, one higher up like waist high.  Use a clip D-ring and pulley on the winch cable to the lower eye bolt.  The end of the drum cable clips to the upper eye bolt.  When you attach the hook to the barrel cable, leave extra to make a loop of cable to grab the winch hook onto.

So you drive up, clip the winch pulley on, and hook the barrel cable loop.  pull down to get the weight on the winch.  unhook the barrel cable, and let the winch down to lower the barrel.  Fill with corn, raise, hook to eye bolt, and let the winch back out to transfer load back to tree eyebolt.

I looked at the tripod feeders but I guessed the only way to fill them was with a ladder or something. So I guess the hoist type will have to be the way to go. The only problem is I don't use a 4 wheeler. So maybe I can hang a pulley (or even 2) and try to hoist it by hand. I will just have to play with it and see how much I can hoist. Also I had planned on feeding 30 Min's or so after sunrise and then a hour before sunset. ( I hunt in a funnel between a soybean Field and a scrub pine bedding area)

You can get the tripod with a hand winch to raise and lower...like the ones on boat trailers.

Or weld up a winch mounting plate to lag into the tree.

Dont be afraid to put a mineral block out....I buy the cheap ones (8 bucks for the cattle ones) u can get them from most hardware stores.......
In 20 years of hunting deer, I would say the block attracts as good as the feeder! Infact I don't even mess with the feeder until late winter  :)

Tractor supply or southern states, etc. has them for horses too.

I agree the blocks are more important until late winter... If your farm/hunting land is going to hold deer a feeder won't do it by itself.. foodplots / crops and cover is what hold deer.  I have shot at more deer on salt licks than food piles...Even when the block is gone they will dig into the ground and eat the dirt...Having all the things you can working for you helps put the odds on your side to be successful.
