I crab in nj. I use ring traps off of my kayak. And until recently, I've used soda bottles with an R, with my name and phone number written on It, to mark my traps. I am now switching them over to can floats and Wanted to know Do I just put the big R and my name a phone number on them or should I put my CID number or my recreational crab license number on? I don't have any yet but will eventually get a commercial crab trap or 2 as well.

It is my understanding that you are 'required" to put your ID number on your floats if you are crabbing in Md.
I hear the sound of one hand clapping....you don't??

Capt. Debbie

Not sure where ALL THE PLACES you crab ARE.  In NJ box, ring style traps do not require Marking since they stay open.

While commercial pots like the 30"x30" MD style do require license number marked, non floating line and be reflectorized.  Rec license for two pots in NJ is like $5 a year.

Thank you.  I live in pa but come to jersey to crab.

Capt. Debbie

The rules apply to where you're crabbing.  Not home state.

So those are the Jersey rules for you.

That's a great idea. I had marked them with sharpie. I'll burn it in as well. Thank you

Capt. Debbie

Will last forever and deter thieves a bit.
