I know its 2 months away but I wanted to get ready for the up coming hunting season. This year has flown by and I wanted to get some stuff set up. I put up a trail camera to take some video on one of my properties and had 29 videos of deer on it in a week. I will check Sunday to see what has been coming threw this week. Last week I had 5 bucks and a bunch of does. The strange thing is a lot of the deer are moving during the middle of the day. Im talking 10am, noon, and 5pm. I also will be putting up a tree stand Sunday as well as a camera. I have one other stand I want to hang but just dont know where Im going to hang it. I have two possible spots but just have not decided on which one would be better.

Been seeing a lot of nice velvet racks mid to late day, less then 50 feet from the roads here in Jackson NJ. To bad the chiggers are so bad down here or I would walk threw the woods and scout.

Will be going up to our property in Wayne county PA, next week to take a look around put up the cams, stands and clear a few shooting lanes.

We have been scouting for the last couple of months on the new property we just bought.  It has been interesting.  We have tons of pics and some nice deer with about 6 bucks traveling together right now and tons of does and now we have been watching the fawns growing.  Lots of fawns.

Is it that time already?

Great post, thanks for bringing it up.

I'm sure they will, and if any one can tag one, it's you for sure

Thanks Chris.  It's not the biggest of properties at 25 acres but it is what we could afford to buy.  This year the two youngest girls will start to hunt and the second full year for the wife.  I'm hoping for good things for all of them.

Looks like a good start.

Plan is to pick up another plot in 2 years.....there is another 25 right around the corner at about the same price we paid.  Would love to pick it up now but need to wait.

Its not the size of the property but what you have on the property and how you manage it. It looks like you have some great property there. One of my properties is my friends parents property and they only have 11 acres. But it is the best property I have ever hunted. I see a deer almost every hunt. I have not seen a shooter buck come into range or light enough to get a clear shot. But I am only shooting bucks in the 120 class or bigger on this property as I know there are a few much bigger then that. I have only hunted this property for 3 years and I recently picked up another property that is 14 acres. Not the best property to hunt but there are a few deer there but I have not seen any good bucks on this property yet. I will be scouting lochraven soon to see if the 8 pointer I let go survived. He was a great looking 4x4 that was 2.5 year old deer. If he was a little wider or had more mass I would have taken him. He would have made the 2nd 8 pointer taken from Lochraven for me. I was hoping he would go towards my friend and he would get a shot at him. He would have been thrilled with that buck. I saw him at the beginning of the rut and I did not want to shoot him when I knew there where bigger deer I was hunting. But I have not shot a buck in 3 years. Wait I did shoot a spike by mistake. It was raining and I thought it was a doe since the side that was facing me had no antler. After I shot him he had a 4 inch spike on the other side. It was a little hard to tell in the rain and water in my eyes. I hunt for meat first then antlers second. That is why I shoot one or two does early in the year. Then hunt antlers and back to taking out some more does.

Do you mind me asking how much you paid? My friend is looking to buy some property and I was wondering how much 25 acres goes for. What area do you hunt?

The property we bought in Wayne PA is 6.5 acres, surrounded by 200 private acres...[that we can hunt] and only 5 miles from state game lands 299 [6000+ acres] and 3 miles from were the east and west branch of the Delaware rivers meet.

No utilities at all, dirt road [maintained] just woods! trees! and critters

We own every bit of it, all mineral, gas, timber etc. rights. [this was very important to us!]

$27500.00

I bought it from a guy in MD.

Nice size. Ive killed all mine off a 1/4 acre the last few years. Only need a good pinch point to cash in.

Plenty of woods around it and a 20 acre field on the back side of the property.  I had passed this property many years since it is at the end of the road where I get my bait and have had many deer cross the road in front of me.  Really looking forward to this years deer and turkey seasons.  Tons of turkeys also

Crabby,
What's the story with the all out assault on deer down in your counties.

I know it was proposed, but I'm not sure if the law passed, but it was basically rifle season all year round or darn near close to it.
