What do you all do for legal pot buoys? I am basically lazy and cheap which maybe applies to a lot of crab people ;D

I go to CoFish International in Sneads Ferry and buy their 2nds.

Here in NJ 5"x11" buoys are only $4.25 each    seagear  Not worth making any  Put in the neck of the woods I crab in the back creeks  You will see the a piece of fire wood with a hole drilled though it and a branch stuck in to make a buoys

Mayo's Commercial Fishing supply in Scranton, think full buoy is $3 each, just cut them in half is all you'll need. Just remember however they'll need to be hot pink for RCGL etc.

Buoys are diced-up floats but too small and near impossible to see with waves.  Even little 1 footers.   Easy to lose traps that way.

You guys are replying to a question from 2015.  As fast as we are, my guess is he has figured it out.
I love my crabs.

Its a discussion.  Buoy design requires some thought.  And can always improve because things change and we adapt to make better.

I like little floats as I stack my traps.  That store better.  Spray them orange if not already that color.   And I clip on a large orange colored bullet float to the end traps in a string.  With a little wind and waves the smaller floats, even orange, will be hard to pick.

A friend jams a 10 foot section of white PVC tubing in the bottom to make the end traps on his string.

As lame as it sounds, i was going to put a pipe or something through one of mine to mark that end pot.  I was only doing it because I cant see the last pot in a 5 pot string. The reason I didnt do it was I had a problem. The problem is my number 5 sometimes ends up in the 4 or 3 spot if I move things.  Too much to think about.
