I used to love shrimping in the St. Johns River.  We use to tear them up.  They dont run in the river like they use to.  They dont get any fresher than that.  Where were these caught?  How did they catch them?  Those look really tasty!!!!!

You just anchor in the right spot at the right time at night with a flounder light and use a dip net to scoop them up as they swim by.  Here's a link to my favorite Shrimping website!

Scroll down to read the Shrimpin' reports...

They were caught off Edgewater Florida in the Mosquito Lagoon. I guess it's the Halifax River just north of Indian River. :)  Wish I could bring them with me! Shrimp are running spotty and not real strong as in years gone by. :(
Like Doc said: They anchor with a light in the water submerged and dip them with a 30" net.
The light they use is a 24-48 inch forescent bulb sealed in a plastic PVC tube. But the light is green so it's easier on your "night eyes". They shrimp between 1201am and daybreak or whenever they stop running! Down here the die hards do it day after day when the shrimp are running. I don't know when the sleep; probably at work!

We use to do it in the day time.  You would anchor up and throw the cast net over and over again until you had the limit.  It was such a blast.  Cleaning 5 gallons of shrimp though was a serious pain in the arse.   I have heard of the light and dipnet method.  I just never realized it produced that well.

If any of you guys ever want to go shrimping in central FL then give me a holler. I'm always up for some shrimping, crabbing, and fishing.
