Hunted with a good friend of mine in Ashland Maine at the Dalton Inn. Had a great Hunt. Shot a nice Bull 52" spread 879 lbs. with Barry Baranowski as my guide.

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, a crab in one hand, a beer in the other, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -- WOW--What a Ride!"

That is unbelievable.  Does that top the big Bear you shot on your list of best hunts?

Nicely done.

Don't take this the wrong way. just wondering if things are the same as 12 years ago.  What was the purpose of the guide?  Last time I was in Maine, there were so many moose, that we were worried about driving our cars.

That is one [Sam Hill] of a nice moose. You should have had a pic of you laying inside the antlers.

Well the Hunting is not as good as it was 12 years ago for Big Moose. They found out that they took to many over the years just like they do with everything. They said  they cut the permits this year by 700 or 800 hundred permits. So the population is down. There is still plenty of moose but the big ones are not easy to find. The big ones are not on the roads like they used to be. You have to go in deep. I was fortune it to have a very good friend that lives in Ashland Maine for 25 yrs and he does have a guiding license. He is very good at calling moose and he has the equipment to get them out of the woods. You have to see it to believe it.We used 1500 feet of rope and a sled that he made to pull it out of the woods. Crazy. Two trucks 8 people a couple of pulleys and 1500 feet of rope. Three hours later and it was Miller time. Ha Ha . Great trip.

Congratulations! By the way, those Millers look like Bud Lights !

That is a awesome moose especially for Maine. I have been applying for a moose permit ever since Maine allowed non residents to do so. Still no permit for me, but my Mother has drawn twice in that period. (she is a Maine resident)

Nice Bull!
I grew up in Maine.  I can't think of many places that can beat it if you're an outdoorsman who likes to fish and hunt.
Please post a pic of the mount (assuming you'll have one made).

They found out that they took to many over the years just like they do with everything.

It is a shame.  I can attest to how abundant they were in 2003.  We were scared to wreck our cars.

I am glad you got one.
