SHELLFISH

I recently took a trip back to CT for a quick visit and on my way back to Florida I was watching the billboard signs for a restaurant called Skippers in Darien Georgia exit 49. I have been to the area before and ate at Pelican Point restaurant and that was OK but not great. It's buffet style and they did have Blue Crabs in the buffet line. They weren't great; just OK.

The billboards stated they had 100% crab cakes among a variety of other seafood dishes. After about 50 miles and seeing at least three billboards I swung off the highway at exit 49 and traveled the two miles to the restaurant.

I asked the waitress about their  Brunswick stew and their crab bisque stew. She stated they were both good but the Crab stew was better.
I ordered the crab stew and was not sorry I did! It was one of the very best crab bisque I have tasted! A cup is $4.99 or if used as a side for the crab cake sandwich only $2.50. The soup or bisque is thick with the correct taste and there is lump crab meat and fish chunks and small diced potatoes in the cup about halfway up the cup!. I thought I was the only one that made crab bisque with potatoes in it! The waitress also brought a small cup of their Brunswich stew so I could sample it. I was unimpressed but it did have good flavor and was OK.

Their crab cakes were not impressive! It's just special crab meat pressed into a hamburger type patty and fried well done on a flattop grille.

If you are in the area stop in and try their crab bisque stew and something other than their crab cakes. it's worth the stop!
Retired in paradise!

Thanks for the info. It's funny, I always ask the waitress what she thinks are the best food her restaurant serves. Most are pretty spot on.  I always take the chance  and find out most times they were right.
And I've never had potatoes in any bisque I've order.
