Cocoa Beach, Fl

I live in Virginia and am very familiar with crabbing around Deltaville va but am traveling for vacation to cocoa beach april 30th thru May 4th.  Was wondering if anyone knew of any places to go around there?  Not familiar with what is open to the public etc.  Any suggestions would be welcome!  Thanks in advance.

I spent a month down there in August of 2009.  I saw a boat load of wildlife at every turn, but never saw a single crab.  Of course, that was August.  It's nowhere near an inlet, unless you consider Port Canaveral an inlet.  I'd go right to a bait shop and ask questions.  Of the locals, not the guys trying to sell equipment and bait.

I have attached a google map view of 528/A1A which leads into  Port Canaveral  and Cocoa Beach.  If you look just north of A1A you will see a canal , it connects the Banana and Indian rivers together and is called the barge canal. I have had good luck hand lining chicken necks and ring net for crabs there. They're lots of little place where you will see people have cut lanes throught the vegetation to have access to the canal. There's plenty of bridges to crab off or under also . I hope this helps you out
I'm a Virginia boy myself born in Petersburg and grew up crabbing at my Grandparents cottage at Burwell's Bay on the James river near Smithfield.  Good luck !!!
