Crabbing banned at Canaveral National Seashore? What!?

Ok, so I just found out they opened one of my favorite roads last month, BioLab Rd.

But now I come to find out I am no longer allowed to crab there? Because the gators are starting to get used to humans? Really??

sounds to me like somebody needs to remind the national park system who owns the parks, and it ain't the dang Gators. it seems to me for some reason Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge and Canaveral National Seashore has an assault on people crabbing, and these restrictions have slowly been being put in place over the last ten or fifteen years or so, not just recreational crabbers but also commercial crabbers whose families have been there for years and years and years making a way of life as Watermen, they actually told the Waterman that their way of life does not fit into the refuge's future, to me this is over reach in blatant [bull dung], it sounds to me like the big money guides are buying somebody more than dinner in the mosquito Lagoon, they got rid of the oystermen they got rid of the clammer and now they're trying to get rid of the crabber and next it'll be the shrimper and the gigger, unless we put the national park system in their place, those Waters in that land belongs to the American people not to the park system; it wasn't five years ago I was allowed to crab along Black Point Wildlife Drive - you go ahead and get caught doing that now, this is all about special interest, these high-dollar guide that want to take out their high-dollar customers to fish for drum and reds and specs, well it all makes sense they all feed on crabs,  don't believe me check out this video -

I imagine the park rangers at Playlinda would be able to tell you if Biolab Rd is off limits or not.

Government closing Public Lands SMDH! I'll bet if you were part of the elite you could crab there just like Chris Christie could still use a public beach when it was closed.

They did the same thing in Delaware at an impoundment at Augustine Wildlife area. They said it was a safety hazard, total B.S. as the place was well off the roadway.

 i've said it for 20yrs....They don't want you to hunt, fish, or trap....just go to any gov land agency website-and see what they promote for recreation......hunting has moved to 73rd place ,behind tree bark identification

Question: I've seen recent news and posts here, that the alligators have become an issue in the Canaveral area. I know that the Vistas going across are banned but info is kinda sketchy on other areas.  Is crabbing prohibited for the entire length of BioLabs Road? What about West of Courtney Pkwy north of Allenhurst on Indian River? Plus I read where they're closing commercial crabbing in 2018! WTH??? Will they also kill it for the recreational folks eventually?

I just heard today that the reason they included a fee on Biolab road is to stop all the people who bypass the entry fee to Playalinda Beach by driving down Biolab Road.

The reason they are closing the CNS area to crabbing is probably only to reduce their liability exposure.

the amount of publicly owned land and water is staggering... how ever the amount that is open for public use is minute .....towns,county and state all use tax money to purchase land in the name of preservation, but then keep people off...

I understand if it's a security risk like area 51 but open lands....no!

Yes I know there are snakes out there but I enjoy walking in the woods. Leave me alone!

OK here is another one. I have been told numerous times that there is no fishing or crabbing allowed at Black Point Wildlife Refuge on Merrit Island. I called today (321-861-0669) and the fella there said it is allowed as long as you have the proper permits.
1. A current FWC fishing license.
2. A current, signed Merrit Island 2018 Fishing Permit. Free at gate.
3. A current pass to the Canaveral Seashore. $10.00 daily, $25.00 annual or Senior Lifetime Pass. I have a Senior Pass!

I have never stopped in to see what the crabbing areas look like there because I thought, and was told, it was not allowed.
However I believe they do not want you stopping your car on Wildlife Drive to park and crab.
Oh boy; another area I'll have to check out! It is mind boggling to me how many crabbable areas there are in the Halifax River, Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River complex areas!

I finally got down to Black Point Refuge yesterday. I guess this sign says it all!
