Lady of the Lake

When does the 2018 contest start?

Crabbygene

Do not think it is being done
I'm a crabbing machine.

That's too bad! Now that I am in an area where I have a better than average chance to find a big crab it's all over!
I am starting to get them figured out down here! Life is good!
In CT when the first Blue Crabs finally showed up we would next get the first cold winds and the crabs would be gone!
I'd have to wait another eleven and a half months for them to show up again...if they ever did!
Down here 12 months of crabbing and no closed season except when they want to remove ghost traps.
I'm not in any of those areas anyhow!

i just remembered I have an oversize set of calipers that I used to measure big turtles with.
It works great on crabs too!   Here are pictures of the old method of a tape and the calipers:
This crab was #70 for this year and you can see the date and size.
Retired in paradise!

Could this be because a politician got involved with the contest? Only asking.

::)

No, that's not the reason at all.    With only 22 people entering last year, it seemed as if interested had waned in the contest.

If someone has an interested in coordinating it, please feel free.

This is, unarguably, as accurate of a measurement as it gets. Nice crab.

      Been a while since used one like that.

      so is that   ------>   9  13/128 inches?
---> Louisiana <---

SHELLFISH

Probably 9 13.5/128 or just shy of 9 1/8 inches! :laugh:
Still looking for the 10 inch crab down here! :-X
Still waiting for the picture of a 10 inch crab from Lake Pontchartrain in LA! ::)

8 7/8" is our biggest. Still waiting for that 9 incher on my boat. We had two that I know would have cracked the 9", but both were missed. One by my buddy from Florida, and the other by my daughter. To this day, I don't let either of them forget it. LOL.

don't think that will happen anytime soon.  With the opening of the spillway crabbing is real slow and no quality.  But who knows anything can happen.

I don't want to hear that crappy news
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, a crab in one hand, a beer in the other, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -- WOW--What a Ride!"
