SHELLFISH

l I scouted Spruce Creek Park here in town several years ago for a possible crabbing spot. There is a nice dock to the rear of the park. I started at 1:00 pm with five metal ring traps and chicken necks. Fifteen minutes later my fist pull and I had five crabs in the bucket. With another pull like that and this will be a quick day! My next pull fifteen minutes later and zero crabs as did all subsequent pulls with the exception of one small crab that was released. It was as if someone had turned off the light switch! I tried moving the traps to shallow water (1 toot) deep water (4 feet)in the shade and in the sun.
After two hours of nothing I  drove to  another close by Doris Leeper Park. All I was getting there were small crabs about 4.75".
There was a fella from Pensacola there crabbing and I spoke with him. He said he had been there about 4 hours and had a cooler full of crabs looking to be in the 5.5 to 6.5 inch range.  He further stated that the bite had died and he was leaving.
Both spots that I crabbed at were on the incoming tide. I am curious if the bite died for both of us at the same time? Very curious day indeed!
The crabs I got at Spruce Creek Park were all males and mostly all 5.75" with one at 7".
Th epicture show two kayaks headng out for a nice day on the water. Many kayakers use this park for fishing too. One kayaker I spoke with who was returning said he got and released two nice Red Drum.

Wow, I've seen that happen up here too!   AND, the reverse also.  No pics ?   We need to at least see some other life besides cold and snow ::) ::)

Thank you for the great report!  I am thinking about heading out Sunday morning.  Are those two parks that you went to usually pretty quiet with crabbers?

Thanks again
