Neither Crab

Yesterday 3-31-2018 I recorded a Swamp People show.SE 6, E 14 , titled bait & Switch. There was a segment about Mr.Glenn & two boys that built a pirogue , pronounced pea-roe , a flat bottomed, shallow water, canoe like craft used in the Louisianna Bayous for fishing and crabbing. Anyway , he taught the young 11-12 year old boys how to build one and then they took it crabbing near Pecan Island. They slid the 12-14 ft. Perogue into a Bayou, paddled a short distance ,tied off to a pole and crabbed turkey necks ,handline style. Each of the three holding 1 handline baited with a huge turkey neck. The one boy didn't know you were supposed to dip the crab then lift it into the boat just picked up the crab while it was still holding on to the turkey neck and then dropped it into the boat. The crab wouldn't let go. In a few hours, they caught a box full of big number 1 male crabs, estimated at over 10 dozen. The boys had more than they needed so they took some to a local merchant and sold them for $50 for some spending money. It was a good story about a kind hearted man that lost his very close brother in another episode when he had a heart attack while building a fish camp. Good show minus the redundant alligator killing.

We can't buy soup crabs around here for $5 dz. Can you imagine catching 10 dz. jumbo jimmies( about 2 bushels) in a row boat with 3 handlines with 3 turkey necks in a few hours? Those days are long gone around here. SHHHH I'm looking for a fish camp to rent there next winter with a perogue  and a paddle.

I hope y'all know that show is pure fiction.

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, a crab in one hand, a beer in the other, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -- WOW--What a Ride!"

OK guys a few things to note.

Its television.  Everything is edited.  I can't watch the show because I can pick out different things per segment.   "Willy throwing a home made treble hook."  Next scene he is pulling the gator into the boat with a single hook in the gator's mouth.  Yeah right.

But you can catch a boat load of crabs with hand lines.  See it all the time.  But you can't sell them without a license.  Well not legally.

I learned how to paddle a pirogue before riding a 2 wheeled bike.  My grandfather and I built many of them.  Hunt, fish, frog, crab.  We use a PUSHPOLE to get around in very shallow water when hunting and frogging.  That brings back many memories.

I'm not selling them I just want to do some hand lining and steam some up. I'd like to stay down there in the Bayou for a few weeks during  Feb. in a secluded waterfront fish camp just to see what it's like. I've been going to Fla. for many years during winter and it's too crowded for me.

Look into Lake End Park in Morgan City, LA.  They have 6 furnished cabins for rent on Lake Palourde.  Right in the middle of "Swamp People" country, about 15 minutes from Troy Landrys house.

I was looking for something more remote. I found a picture of what I'm looking for but until they fix this web site like every body eleses where you can easily post them I won't be abele to post it.

How remote do you want?  I can get you a fishing camp accessible only by boat with only electricity.  You'll have cell phone service but that's it.  Or a fishing camp with all the trim.  Let me know what you're looking for.

Sounds good . On the water, a pirogue with a paddle, A little crabbing dock would be a very nice touch. Any Rougarous around to keep me company?
