A CRAB A DAY KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY.

Our youngest daughter on youth day.  It was my wife and her while I had to run to the shore for bushel baskets.  I set them up and left.  2 hours later I got the call.  It was a jake with a 5" beard.  It was a big bird.  It was her first time hunting let alone hunting turkey.

Young girls with guns. Gotta love it. I know we won't be seeing her in any of these nonsense protest marches. Congratulations.

Thanks rdbeard

super proud of both them.  I had been getting pics of birds coming thru there several days a week.  All I did was set the blind up and brush it in the night before, followed them over to the property the next morning and set the decoys up and make sure they were ok and left.  She is the first in the family to get a bird and my wife did the calling.  I never thought my daughter would sit still long enough for anything to come in let alone close enough to shoot.  They both pleasantly surprised me.  I just wish I had been able to be there.

Neither of our youngest girls will be seen in an antigun march.

You cant beat getting a turkey on your first hunt! And a heavy bird at that.  It must've been eating on some guy's corn pile or under a bird feeder :P

haha My story isn't so great.  It was boring to say the least.  Started the morning trying to figure out how to get my blind back together since a pole came out of the sleeve.  Its not fun trying to reconfigure an inside out popup blind with just a head lamp in the dark.  Heard one gobble at twilight then nothing until I saw the Tom around 845ish about 115 yards away.  He gobbled again when he saw the decoys then put on a great show dancing.   I thought my Tom decoy was going to spook him but he got fired up when I turned it on and then turned it off with its tail facing him.  It took him 40 mins to work his way to 30 yards and then the magnum blend did the rest.

That's a little better, thank you.

I have shot many turkey over my life and recall each one. Ill post a story about one a little later.

last year's hunt was wild...had a tom come in to 35 yards then go away which was odd since I had a live hen in my decoy spread.  I was kicking myself in the butt for not taking the shot (I shoot 3.5" magnum blends) out of a hevi shot turkey tube.  but I was happy I didn't.  I had 5 toms come in after and start going wild on my jake decoys.  I ended up getting my first double beard out of all the ruckus.

Then a few years ago I was hunting some real thick brush and only thing I heard of the turkey was the drumming of his chest as he snuck up.  talk about having a heart attack!
