Looking for 'something' that says the number you can have(like MD@ 30) or not, such as unlimited....Guy says NJ can only have 2 and they must be tended, not dropped like we do...I know NJ has only 2 POTS with a license and they have to be checked every 72hrs at least...NC, I have no idea, but he says he got a $300 fine for 'numbers or tending', I believe?...I'll find out...
I'm niether proud nor embarrassed, I'm a man....Sometimes I sh!t my pants.....It's part of the deal.

In NJ there is no limit on "traps".  The limited on "hotels" is two and you have to get a license for $2.  Traps must always be attended, while "hotels" must be check every 72 hours.

There is often a terminology issue re "trap" & "pot..." 2 pots (hotel type) in NJ is correct. Must be tended at least every 72 hours, and there are some limits on waterway width (>50') if memory serves, and pots are prohibited in a couple of systems (Dividing Creek & one other, iirc.) Unless something changed recently, there is no limit on the number of recreational crab traps that can be deployed for a crabbing trip. No idea about NC...

Here is the info right from NJ Fish and Wildlife:

https://www.njfishandwildlife.com/pdf/non-comm_crabpot_regs.pdf

Traps - as many as you want and no license required in NJ
Pots - require recreational crabbing license, limited to 2 pots per person, much check every 72 hours, and other rules.

Thx, but I'm looking for 'words/writing,etc' that actually say a number or unlimited number...If you look at those regs, there really is no number given, even for REC POTS...I DO KNOW the regs in NJ, but someone else told me NO and I'm just looking for numbers to back up my claim of UNLIMITED traps, such as topless...He even said you can ONLY have 2 traps, such as topless etc...Hope to find something in writing and NOT "I just got off the phone with NJF&G and he said"....btw, which is what he's told me...lol

I don't think you are going to find what you're looking for. Mguy1 linked you to the regs. They are what they are. "Single hand lines and collapsable traps do not require a license" is as close as you are going to get there. That has afaik always been interpreted to mean that the limits on the maximum number of items do not apply to those categories. It is somewhat vague, and not every possibility is spelled out in black and white. I guess you could try mailing or emailing the commercial marine F&G guys in Port Republic and ask for a definitive answer. I've always found them pretty responsive to questions.

I was in Cape Hatteras last August.

The non opening Md/Commercial traps you can have one attached to a private dock.  These are not box or pyramid traps...   No tag or license needed like NJ's 2 pot Recreational License when in NC.

Non-closed traps (e.eg. box nets, ring nets, etc) there is NO LIMIT.

DON'T WASTE YOUR Time crabbing in Pamlico Sound.
