Is the law vague of crab limit.

I wouldn't say it's dead, far from it.

I do believe that you're confusing moderation with censorship. Big difference.

I believe you are the one who is confused. First, I did not say that this board was dead. I did say that I have seen many boards die when effective moderation ceased. It is also you who seem to be confusing moderation and censorship. The function of censorship is to prevent certain viewpoints from being expressed at all. The purpose of moderation for a board is to ensure that each section of a board sticks to its "charter." In other words, only regional "crab reports" and comments pertinent to same are permitted in those sections, questions about crabbing in a region are only permitted in "crab resources," and blatant political discussion and debate is required to be posted in one of several general discussion sections. In my several years on here, that is how it seemed to work. Nearly every time I logged in, I would see that quite a few posts had been moved to the appropriate section by a moderator. Most typically that was between "reports" and "resources" (which does not seem to be happening at all any more - this year I've seen a crapload of  "resource" posts in "reports") but frequently other posts were moved to retain the focus of a particular section. That made this board of value to me. I don't have unlimited time to read through completely unrelated "stuff" to get to what I'm looking for. If I want to find out what crab catches have been for the past few days for South Jersey, I expect to be able to skim through the subjects of posts in the NJ crab reports section and get that information. By the same token, if someone asks a question in NJ crab resources about spots or regulations and I know the answer, I expect to find that most of the other replies are pertinent to the original question, not that the thread has been hijacked to serve some other purpose. There is already a place named Facebook that is ideal for a stream-of-consciousness blather free-for-all. No need to reinvent that wheel here. YMMV

I thinks he wants a moderator job.  Rigid adherence.

I was wondering why we allow clam reports in a Crab Report section.  Ruins my whole day.  LOL

Seriously, any thread that needs 2 pages on replies to give a one line answer might be on a tangent.   So....

Oh, H311 no. As I wrote, I'm only on here once (occasionally twice) a week. To be an effective moderator, someone would need to be on here at least once daily (if not more often,) and would need to read every post within their purview. I'm aware that isn't an easy task, but it is important enough to be done diligently (and I do appreciate it when it is successful, in case that didn't come across in my previous comments.) Also, construing my comment as calling for "rigid adherence" is imo a bit absurd. I have been reading posts in NJ crab reports that clearly belong in resources (and would previously have been moved there) for months. This thread began with a legitmate and serious question, which elicited only one serious (if tentative) answer, followed by an even dozen posts that were wholly about NJ politics. Only then did I put my $.02 in re moderation of OT comments. I do think that members should enjoy the privilege of bringing up a (perceived) decline in the usefulness of the board. That is my perception, and that was my purpose. As I mentioned, I'm very opinionated, and I'm more than capable of tearing pretty much any politician, anywhere, an additional ventral orifice (virtually, that is.) I have done just that many times, in many places, but I'm not looking to do it in a board section where it is likely to frustrate a sincere poster looking for answers and actionable information about crabbing.
