Buck down

The rut is on fire around me. I saw 2 small buck chasing a doe yesterday. Today I woke up late and did not get on the road until 6:30am. When I almost got to my hunting ground I saw a small buck chase a doe across the street. I park my truck and start to get dressed. 40 yards away stands a spike and tall 6 pointer tending a doe. They take off after a few min. I finish getting dressed and walk to my climber. Around 7:45 I grunt for the second time this morning. This time a buck comes right towards me. I could not believe he came so quick. He thrashed a bush for a second and came right towards me. While he walked behind a tree I stood up. He was only 15 yards away. I let him pass me then I drew back. I let the arrow fly and a perfect hit. Good penetration and he took off. He ran out of sight but thought I saw him crash. 45 min later I get down and walk towards the way he went. Found some blood and part of my arrow. Great blood trail to follow but did not need it for long. I could see a big white belly. I also put out some corn after my hunt for my hunt Saturday. While parked and pulling corn out a buck chases a doe across the road. It was about the same size as the one I shot. The rut is on fire this year.

I guess I have been holding out.  We have a few real nice bucks we have been chasing.  Opening day I got a decent 6pt in velvet and the next Friday the wife got a 4pt piebald that she has been watching for the last 3 years.  Last night we had good activity.  I will have to post up some pics.

I am not anti-hunting. Got two great CBR's that I paid big bucks for to retrieve for me.  Up until 9 years ago I hunted quite a bit.  But when I had a heart attack something changed in my brain chemistry.  I guess it changed me into a Sissy of some sort.    So I just click on by. And I don't watch the Walking Dead either.  Each to their own...

Jack, while I didn't have a heart attack (yet), I became a grandfather and experienced the same change in life. I no longer have that desire anymore like you.......and I'm ok with it.

Inn you're killing me.  Good cold front coming thru today and another stronger one on Monday.  Can't do anything for a while.  I'll need a couple of weeks of PT to get enough range of motion so I can hook my climber onto a tree.  I'll hunt with my crossbow.  I don't think my shoulder can take the recoil from my rifle.  Today marks 2 weeks since my surgery and I'm already thinking about hitting the woods.  Next week I'll hit the water and do some fishing.

Im sorry but this in the hunting section. Aka dead animals and possible blood. Im sure people think steamed crabs is also gross but I'm sure non are on this site. So if you dont like seeing dead animals or blood please dont look in this part. I really did not think about cleaning the deer up to take a nice picture as I still needed to field dress it and drag it out all by myself. No atv just a hand cart. If I have the time and someone is there to help me I might try and take a nicer pic. That way you and Jack can both enjoy the pics.

Wow. Its usually the other way around. You are crabbing and fishing when we cant do anything. I hope you get better soon. The land owner asked me to shoot them a little doe. So that is what Im aiming for tomorrow. Im hoping my cousin shoots a nice buck tomorrow. He will be hunting with me.

  I'll be 67 in 2 weeks and my hunting has changed but I still hunt. I'm no longer interested in trophies although I like seeing them and no longer hunt in bad weather. On Friday when you got your nice buck I got a fat 7" spike in DE that should taste great. I see nothing wrong with that picture in this area of the forum, congratulations.
