I'm going to the  Florida keys this June.  can you catch blue claw crabs there like here in New York  . has anyone gone crabbing there and if so please inform me if it was worth it to try . I'm going flat fishing  i want to try everything while I'm there . thanks

Mr. Breeze

There are a few crabs there, I've seen them in the shallows.  Little ones are great bait for permit, and I think, bonefish.  If I were you, I'd get my crabbing fix here, and concentrate on the flats fishing.  I'm not sure that there could be a better fishing trip for me, than to be on the flats in the keys.  ENJOY,  I'm envious.

I am also planning a trip to the keys for a crabbing and fishing trip.  I live in MO and I am trying to find out if I am crazy for bringing down 15 box crab traps and hoping for some blue crab.

Personally, I would not bother, but with your enthusiasm you should try because you never know what you might get, crabs or otherwise.

I would try catching lobsters. I went snorkeling and caught a bat crab in the US virgin islands. I'm sure there are blue crabs but you can catch that here. Try for something new. Also 15 traps takes up a lot of room.

You don't even need to bring the fishing rods. They have places where you can rent them. It is easier than traveling with them. If you don't want to go out on a boat (or you're on a honeymoon with a pregnant wife like I was) you can fish from most of the bridges that connect the island.
