Hey just wondering what y'all do/used to do with green crabs when you caught them. Do most of you throw them back or just kill them? Not sure what the etiquette for that is but they're an invasive species in CT I believe so not sure what would be best to do with those annoying suckers haha

Tog Bait
I didn't know green crab was invasive
but we use them for bait (Tog, Sheephead) here in NJ

gcs

They're considered invasive everywhere, they are native to Atlantic southern Europe where they are eaten, mostly in soups, as picking them is about impossible. I harvest them in the fall for blackfish bait, and the Chinese eat some when blue claws are expensive, again, mostly for stock.
You can kill them if you want, but you'll never get ahead of them, once you got them, you got them forever

This.  Cut in half and clip the legs.

These are super annoying in CT.  Whenever I run into these and spider crabs, there are no blue crabs.
