[dang] thieves.   >:(  I guess it is possible something ran over and cut the line by accident.  Hope in humanity.

I picked up a rogue float today but the address on it was Newark.  Looked like prop chop though

people claim thievery all the time, and there is a bit of that going on. there are probably more lost to the prop of a boater than stolen. I have a property on the indian river and floats make it to my shore all the time, so high traffic areas are not good for trap. they do not give boat operators an eye test yet. oh and after a good storm some times I even get that pot that was stolen as it makes it way to shore. get the point.

Found a commercial pot in Chincoteague Bay Thursday that washed ashore. Judging by the crumbling semi white dead crabs in it, it had been there for awhile. That water is pretty shallow there and I can see how it got washed in with a good storm and heavy wave action. I did my best to try to throw it back in a little ways and hope the owner saw his float . My kayak was loaded up with rods and gear and wasn't able to get it out further.

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe it wasn't stolen, could have been cut. But better safe than sorry. Just wanted to give some info for people to keep in mind when placing their pots

I fish the Indian river lagoon in fl and traps go missing all the time. I switched to PVC buoys and it helps a little . Then you get to see the slice marks from the prop and the scuff marks from the bottom paint. You find a few usually within 1/4 mile if it is dragged around for a little bit. The ones that go missing in the slow zones keep you scratching your head.
Personally I would not want my crab yacht to get a scuff mark from a barnacle encrusted buoy or my Ferrari of an outboard to get a rope tangled up in it.
Between the crooks and the accidents it never feel good no matter how many times it happens.

Its non stop down there.  Either pots get raided and crabs stolen or they take your whole rig
