I'm headed to Emerald Isle in August and was jazzed to bring my trusty box snap traps and maybe a couple of pots. The recreational regs only mention collapsible traps being used without a license on public land.  Are my snap traps illegal in NC? I've been searching around and can't find definitive info.
Any help is much appreciated!

Collapsible traps are allowed and no restrictions on how many however I believe they cannot be over 16 inches - The DMF site should specify that. If your renting a private cottage, home etc- your allowed 1 crab pot. I am not sure if that applies to out of state persons or not. The BEST info while you have plenty of time is to contact the DMF directly on the phone. They are VERY HELPFUL and will get you in direct contact with the enforcement officer for a specific area and you can talk with them directly. The rules/ laws constantly change and I / anyone else would not intentionally steer you wrong. Best thing is to call and you will know first hand with no doubt.

Thank you, will be calling a DMF officer today.  Maybe I'll email them too, so I have a definitive answer in writing...

I do that also and take a copy of what ever message - reply you get and keep in a ziplock bag with you when you go. They usually respond back reasonably fast  and are helpful.
