Hello recently moved to Florida and got one of the commercial crab traps.

I have heard from random people that I shouldn't leave the trap unattended, but I can't find it anywhere in the regulations (https://myfwc.com/fishing/saltwater/recreational/blue-crab/) stating that.

Is it because people will steal them? or is it against some regulation?

Can anyone clarify if it can be left alone overnight?

Thank you!

Hi, welcome aboard.  I moved to the Tampa area from NJ about 5yrs ago.  I used to crab NJ, DE, and MD.

Let me know how the crabbing is in your area of the state.  A friend of a friend of mine just moved down here from Niceville. I hear it's really nice (pardon the pun) up there.

According to crab regulations enforced by the FWC (Florida Wildlife Commission) traps and pots (except those off your own I think) cannot be left overnight.  These are Florida state rules but due to poachers, it's not a good idea to leave them overnight anyway.
