OK, been a while, like about 13 years, so....Looking at the regs I see you need a DNR id# on your floats now...Back then I believe all you needed was your name on the float... So, do I need to get a license FIRST to have a number and will it change EVERY year?...Believe the cost WAS like $10 then...Wanted to get id tags because the marker wore off after each season...If the id# changes, the id tags would only be 1 year...
I'm niether proud nor embarrassed, I'm a man....Sometimes I sh!t my pants.....It's part of the deal.

DNR ID number always stays the same. The number you had on your license 13 years ago should be the same number when you renew it again.

Probably the easiest way is to establish an account with DNR Compass, which is a portal used to purchase or renew licenses.
https://compass.dnr.maryland.gov/dnrcompassportal

Once you complete the enrollment, you will be given a DNR ID # which will stay the same from there on. You can buy and print your license and be sure to save the user ID and password for the site and you can then renew that license each year in the same manner.

Great!...Got my number...That is all that is required on floats I take it...Can I get a tag with the number and attach it?...Then, all I need is a $10 crab license?...If I get a $15 boat license is that for MY boat only?...Guessing I could buy 1 and use it on a friends boat, but it would be for THAT boat only...99% of the time I'd be on someone else's boat is my take...

boat lic would be for your boat only but that also gives you a rec crab lic for when you crab on someone elses boat so you can take 2 bu per boat.

I looked up the COMAR (Maryland Law) concerning DNR ID # on crab trap markers. It only specifies that you have to have the number on the marker, but says nothing about size of numbers or manner of applying the number to the marker. I wouldn't see any problem with the attached tag that you speak of, but, just remember it is only my opinion.

I use a sharpie to mark floats and crab couple times  a week.  Seems to me it lasts 3-5 years.
I love to fish, but I live to crab.
