Hunting is crazy.  You dont know how the day will end.  
This morning I was contemplating on going since they were calling for AM showers but the futurecast showed nothing until noon.  Also I wasnt getting much for consistent action at the location I primarily hunt.  Well good thing I decided to suck it up and give it a whirl this morning.

I arrived at the field at 5:20ish (sky was already at twilight) and as soon as I got out of my truck I heard 3 birds gobbling, one for sure on the property.  So i hurried up and got the camo on/decoys pulled out, and gun unpacked and started to take the long loop around the field since I thought the bird on the property was roosting over large puddle in the woods that is close to the field on the eastern end.

So I walked slowly around and tucked in the woods about 100 yards where I thought the gobbler on the property was roosted.  I was wrong I put up a hen decoy and he gobbled again and it sounded like I was within 70 yards.  So I hurried up and tucked along a fallen down tree where I can see through the branches some and waited.  Well after some soft calling and peeking through the branches......this guy came up silent to within 30 yards.  His only giveaway while strutting in was puffin with his chest  and stepping on a branch.

When he went behind a tree I kneeled up and when he came around the other side the rest is history.

Congrats. I spent 3 days in Maryland without so much as hearing a bird. Good to see there are still some on the shore 😂 good looking birds
Each one of us here today will at one time in our lives look upon a loved one who is in need and ask the same question: We are willing to help, Lord, but what, if anything, is needed? For it is true we can seldom help those closest to us. Either we don't know what part of ourselves to give or, more often than not, the part we have to give is not wanted. And so it is those we live with and should know who elude us. But we can still love them - we can love completely without complete understanding.

Been here for a week and a half already. Got another week and a half to go. Then I escape to paradise again. And by paradise I mean out of Maryland. 😂

For it is true we can seldom help those closest to us. Either we don't know what part of ourselves to give or, more often than not, the part we have to give is not wanted. yea I hate Marylands politics but love md crabs, there are none better. That's what will keep me here thru retirement till death even though I could live elsewere cheaper. I will retire in the next 2 to 3 years for sure.

I will always be in Maryland some. Can't get away. Too many ties here but it is refreshing to live in "freedom" the irony is Maryland is called the Free State. 😂

Well it is free, if you're not a citizen. I think that's the new national policy now, if I'm not mistaken.
