General question of crabbing the inter coastal..
I have put 5 pots out on the ICW and haven't had much luck. Went out this weekend and used some ring traps along the coastal side of the icw and caught nothing early in the morning. Had a commercial gentleman give me some advice to crab on the inland side because it is warmer for the crabs. Does anyone have any other recommendations? Should I set the pots in the marshes more, or more in the creeks? Or will the crabbing pick up along the inter coastal as the weather gets warmer. I have a boat and can get relatively shallow.
Also should I be using Pogies/ blue fish for bait in the pots rather than chicken necks? Thanks for help in advanced.

YebaZ,

Just got back from Holden and crabbed the ICW.  Area is about 100 miles southwest of Emerald Isle.   Would not say i killed but did ok 40 keepers over 3 days of crabbing.   For bait i used chicken leg quarters.   Harris Teeter had a sale 49 cents per pound!

One learning was the tide made two of my pots 50% above water.  Did better crabbing where either a canal or a creek flowed into the ICW.    Did not bring a thermometer but was surprised how warm the ICW was there would guestimate it was high 68 +/- degrees.

Good luck,
Greg
