I was wondering if anyone makes their own crab seasoning or has ever tried to make it, and what are the economics of such an adventure?

What do you need seafood seasoning for? You don't catch crabs anyway, Tom.  LOL.

I don't catch crabs, but our home made ring traps do all the work. Instructions by the perfectionist will keep you needing more seasoning!!

I'm not sure if this counts as making my own, but here is what I landed on last year after some experimentation with mixing/matching different spices. I'll continue experimenting. I wanted something that had more black pepper than what's normally in Bay spice blends. These are all ratios...

4 parts JO#2
2 parts Old Bay
2 parts black pepper
1 part ground coriander
1 part kosher salt
1 part mustard powder

Basically, it's an extra peppery version of JO. I tried JO Black and it was very good but not quite enough pepper/heat. I tried Wye River black and it's good on fish but not strong enough for crabs...plus I could only find a small bottle of it. The Old Bay adds some heat and the black pepper adds the...pepper. The mustard powder smooth things out. The coriander adds an earthiness that I enjoy.

I modify my own using OB my dad's old version based on the old Gablers on route 40 recipe and I make an ok one using Jo and about 12 other spices called FlounderDirt.
