I Started hunting 1951 to be exact and  had to give up Hunting many Years ago 2000  The areas I hunted were so so,  I harvested a Nj State Record in Warren County 1957 ? and ended in Monmouth County where I moved to. Deer were a few here and there in my Yard until past 6 yeras where they have exploded in numbers do to development and No Hunting at times as many as 21 at a time would show up like clock work they were not afraid one bit I would take these photos from my deck at 25 feet at times as they would look up and seem to pose. And no I do not put out bait they love my grass it seems.
 
The Flocks of Turkeys the same numbering in the Dozens all over Town NJDFAG tagged  them as Hybrids mixed so they would trap kill dump them as complaints would come in about them attacking residents Now I see 2 hens 3 males this march and nothing since.

The deer do a lot of damage to some shrubs and Plants but I found a deer repellent that keeps them at bay.

I enjoy sitting out on my deck just watching them as they Play Feed even bed down for the night as my flood lights seem to make them feel safe. Now its June I may see a Stray passing but come September they will show up to show be their families most with Twins.  Sadly Road kills are part of the Problem as No hunting Posted Lands.
Allso my yard seems to attract many wildlife Critters From Chipmunks Squirrels Rabbits Fox Coyote Groundhogs Hawks Vultures Owls And lately a Crow that has learned to raid Birds nests in my Garden stealing baby's despite all the bird house I have out.

I have deer all over the place too in Burtonsville. Not a lot of woods around to justify that many deer (6-10 daily) but there always is deer around. Here is a picture of a big boy that comes around

The first one $26 is hit miss the second $38 the most success longer lasting both on Amazon Warning do not get either one on you or your Cloths worst than Skunk smeel on Plantings fade one day but the plants absorb it.  also look at the reviews on amazon but read between the lines.

I use these and have not had  problem since.  One year I planted two hostas out front went inside and took a shower came outside and they were gone.  I planted two more this year and put these out right afterwards and they have left them alone.  That was about a month ago.

Central NJ Monmouth County I tried them very localized and become ineffective in Hot windy weather. for 2 hostas ok for my yard I would need 100 0f them but still not long lasting. The Sprays get absorbed and last in Rain Snow. BUT must apply reg. My Arborvitaes take a hit every winter years ago lost dozens of Hostas. Last year they took a hit because of my failure to apply luckily they came back as it was close to Fall. even Stronger. Photos are just a few sections of my Gardens Labor of Love   $$$$$$ When you have dozens of Deer Rabbits Groundhogs Coons 100s of plants Sprays are #2 . Shotguns are #1   Good luck with you Hostas

Mine got hit My fault the deer showed up early to taste mine Just got the repellant but did not spray so they got me./ But no more after a Sprayed. Last year and past they were either completely destroyed of down to the ground.   Figure with the the 14 or so i had last winter and 2 Bucks mixed in the Heard will be at least doubled also Have not seen any road kills of the young the first to get it. before the rut.

That stinks.  Mine got it a little worse than yours did.  I started spraying the repellent on them as well.  What should I do with them, leave them the way they are for next season or can you cut them all the way down and start fresh from next spring?

Continue to protect them as much as possible. I have had mixed results over the years. from them eaten to the ground to return the next year to if repeated down to the ground the second year they did not recover. But that area was also very dry conditions as they love watering Photo is part of the group eaten down last year and recovered to now 1/2 eaten I expect full recovery.  One thing I did this year was I mixed Blended the 2 Repellants seems to work better, But when the Fawns Yearlings show up they like to take a bite out of everything than I mix red pepper to the mix, And watch them do the Salsa    As I said I expect to have a huge heard this year. \

Off topic NJDFAG Just announced that The Bear season will no longer be held ( Canceled ) The Reason the Law had Expired   So add to the Some estimates of 3500 to 5000 Bears I found on Google  with no controls I expect to see Bears at my Place very soon.
