MD Crabbing Reports / Wye River 9-8-24

First day of vaca and wasn't in a hurry to do anything. Hit the ramp around 12:30 in the afternoon to a very vacant parking lot. Headed down river and didn't see one boat crabbing. Set out 23 ring traps and the first run we had 5 keepers with a 7 3/8"  to be the first one in the boat. Second run 6 keepers. Slowed a bit but still getting keepers every run. When I mentioned about making a move, the Captain scolded me and said, you don't leave crabs to find crabs. Of coarse the next trap had another 7" crab. Headed back to the ramp at 4 o'clock with a little under a half basket with 3 being over 7". Cooked them up in the hotel parking lot and gave the desk clerk a half dozen for a little snack. She was much appreciative. This must be the Chinese year of the turtle, we went thur 50 extra c/n's in 3 hrs.

I don't have any experience with them but I was going to use this until I found out it is limited to 70hp motors.

Where did you see that?

Outstanding!!  Noodle as your indicator for your chicken line I guess?  Great idea!  As kids we used to walk out to our chest at Cattus Island and use tall tomato stakes n tie 3 chicken lines to each pole...ran bout 5-8 poles. Never thought bout using noodles w kayak!!  Creative!!

NE Crabbing Reports / Waqoit Bay
Last post by NorEaster - Yesterday at 07:10:51 PM
I know the multiple spots in Chatham, Dennis and Yarmouth. They're all close to where we stay in the Cape. Next year we're spending the summer in Falmouth instaed. I know they're in Waqoit bay but I think you need to be a resident to park there. I visited here years ago and I think I was illegally parked there when I last dropped in. Does anyone know where there's public non resident parking to drop my kayak or possibly wade out at night? I can access by boat but would prefer hitting the bay by kayak or by foot at night.

Quote from: jimaok on August 22, 2024, 08:31:22 AMCan we use collapsible traps at night?
Yes but it's easier to just wade out at night with a net and  spotlight that's all you need.

That spot looks incredible! I've been working since March, literally. I'm going to be in the Brick area this week. I'm hoping to get into Crabs like that. Thanks for the report!
