MD Crabbing Resources / Re: Trotline Weights?

Quote from: Wallco99 on September 05, 2024, 11:59:14 AMThese are the exact weights I have been using for 30 years, 30 lb. dumbbells. Never had a problem with them ever moving or rolling, yet they move easily when you need to tighten or loosen line.
I use a 25 lb. on one end and a 20 lb. on the other end.  I drilled through the handle and put on stainless steel Eye Hooks and put nylock bolts on the bottom.  Works great.  I have a 30 lb., but it was a bear to pull up.  My line stays put.

There's always a female run for a couple of weeks this time of the year. I think the most likely explanation is that the females are starting to migrate toward the ocean so they can spawn. They're coming from wherever they happen to be and trying to fatten up for the trip down the Bay before they bury for the Winter.

There is an entire section on kayak crabbing on the forum. We use handlines, ring traps, box traps, topless traps and trotlines.

NJ Crabbing Resources / Kayak Crabbing??? How?
Last post by Liveez - Yesterday at 04:22:41 PM
Can you fit all of your gear to crab on a Kayak?  How shallow can you go with a kayak?  I have been google mapping Steelman Bay by Somers Point, I would love to try a jetski to crab from,  but it looks too shallow.  So I am back to a kayak.  Someone posted free boat launches and I see one very close to it.  Has anyone ever crabbed here?  Am I wasting my time?
thanks in advance
