I did Thursday 9/9 in the rain and the Navesink. Not much better.
Only 4 keepers in 3 hours of steady rain. With all caught right before the bottoming out of the PM tide and going home. No hangers on the Oceanic Bridge
I think the rain did a number and rearranged our crabbing grounds. Time to start looking around.
These are usually the most productive months of the NJ crab season?
Back in the day the best months were September/October. But in the last 10 years or so, the best months have been June to the middle of July. Not sure the reason..bay too hot?? But I also have to wonder if all the commercial traps in and around my area (Toms River to Forked River) have something to do with it. NO I'm not blaming the commercial guys...yes they have to make a living and I support them. Just wondering if that is the reason why the crabs are few and far between by the end of July. However this year, the entire season has been terrible.
