Shrews — Sunday, 7/31

Headed out around 9 am, incoming tide … 13 foot canoe loaded with 15 topless traps, baited with chicken necks … bite was on from the get-go. Two hours later, I had 60 crabs in the basket, and the bait was simply destroyed. Must have thrown back another 60 or so little guys.

Size was generally 5.25 to 6.25. As the bushel started to fill, one crab saw his chance to escape, jumping out, sticking the landing on the ledge of the canoe, and somersaulting into the water. I’m Going back this weekend to reclaim him.

Made rookie mistake of setting traps too far apart — must have paddled 5 miles … left sore, but it was well worth it!
