Not one crab.  Our bait was stripped to the bone by something that pulled it so hard it pulled a wire loose in my mesh crab trap.  Guy at the end of the dock caught a 20" alligator gar, pretty sure that's what did it.

We will try again in a few weeks but it was very disappointing considering how well we did in the same place last August.

Thanks for the report, this year has been strange for the crabs, all last summer I was able to get a dozen or more each trip … maybe the heat ?

Thanks for the report but sorry to hear your results! You sure are having a rough time lately!
Here are pictures from 8-5-2023 (13), 8-18-2023 (17) and 8-25-2023 (21) and I gave 15 away. Doing well in New Smyrna this year!  Size is not great but there are lots of crabs in the area!
I caught a 6.75 inch male with three large barnacles on his carapace. Thought he was a good crab.
I ate him last night and the shell had minimal meat in it!
