Hello fellow crabbers,

I have accomplished my first crabbing of the season at woodland beach 5/8/24. Crabbed on the low tide at first light. Managed 7 muddy and delicious full keepers. Caught over 150 small crabs that didn't make the cut. Ran 600' trot line with chicken necks about 100 yards off shore. Have never crabbed this early so I didn't know what to expect but I know one thing... I LOVE CRABBING!

Good luck fellow crabbers

You never know until you go.
There's no place like roam!

I like that prop you have on your boat. Did you make that?

Hello fellow crabber,

Everything was custom made by Timney Welding & Fabrication in Smyrna, DE. He has done a great job making my comically small 1240 boat into a crabbing machine! I Love Crabbing!

Wahoo

Since someone ate crabs, others must have eaten spiders as well.  However, they were not tasty.
So afterwards, people stopped eating them.   These people deserve our heartfelt gratitude  :)

Thanks for the report. I may start this weekend. It would be great to get a dozen or so.....

How are the gnats/mayflies?  I was going to give it a try on Friday but noticed there will be very very little breeze.  I have had maddening attacks by swarms of gnats/mayflies this time of year.  You need a breeze to keep them away or you will go insane.  Can anyone report on the bugs?
I have a fever....
And the prescription....
Is more crabbing !!

I know what you are talking about! Green heads are what drive me out. I'm going to try Friday also and am just hoping to sneak in and sneak out. I haven't been down yet so can't give a bug report.

I almost never crab between mid May (no see-ums) and late August (greenheads) unless the wind is blowing 10mph or more.  I want to have fun and not go mad with the bugs.  Nothing beats a nice breeze.  I learned the hard way!   The northern Chessy is not nearly as bad since over the years a lot of the marshes were filled in with rip rap and property owners have grass right up to the water.  Really surprised MD let that happen $$$.
