Is the COMMON SPIDER CRAB (Libinia emarginata), found on the northeast coast EDIBLE?
Is it more susceptible in NJ/NY waters to contamination or parasites, in comparison to other marketed varieties of crab from the same waters?

(I contacted the New Jersey Fish & Wildlife Dept. and they told me that they didn't know because it probably would't be tested considering that there is no market for them, edible or not.)

I do know that its cousins from Europe: the 'Spiny Spider Crab' [Maja squinado] and Cancer paygurus,  are marketed in the UK as food.
