I've taken the Basic Boating Safety Certification Course online thru (www.boatsafe.com) It was mandatory for my 19' Wellcraft. It's an online course an is reconized by the (NASBLA) National Association of State Boating Law Administraters and by the US. Coast Guard. The test was free online. Once you past the test you pay a $15.00 fee. Which includes your certificate 8"x11" plus a laminated saftey certificate card which you keep in your wallet/boat. As Far as is i know, good for Pa. Nj. De. Md. and most other states.

There is are other CERTIFICATIONS  that are required for boats larger than mine.

Just to let everyone know if you live in NJ you must take an in person boater safety course to drive a boat on NJ waterways. All other courses online etc are not reconised by the NJ state police. Out of state boaters are safe.

I was told by NJ officials that as long as you have a state issued boaters certification from a different state that is it recognized in NJ. I live in PA and crab in Toms River so I took my PA State education course an am using it in NJ.

I called the Coast Guard with concerns about having a PA online boaters cert. to see if it was reconized in NJ. The person I called called down to a squadron in NJ and they said it was reconized in NJ. I also had previously e-mailed the fishing dept in NJ and  received this URL after I called the Coast Guard.
