I go out on our boat with the family(I'm 17) and I was wondering While at a sandy beach or anchored in 0-20 feet of water are the most productive/most fun methods of crabbing.  Also I was wondering if anyone dip nets/chicken necks from a kayak in small tidal creeks and such.  I know how to chicken neck I grew up doing it but now that we moved off the water I can no longer do it in the back yard.  I have built crab pots and traps as well as used them I am just looking for some methods that are fun and hands on for my lil bros and I while the parents sunbathe.

Kayaking for crabs is good in small rivers/creeks where the water is calm.

Strap a bushet basket, bucket, or laundry basket to the kayak to hold the crabs you catch.  If you use rings or traps I'd recommend putting them on floats, and not just hanging them from the kayak.  It works fine.

Just don't do it in alligator infested waters like I did.

can you chicken neck from a sandy beach like area on the edge of a wide deeper river?  or will all the crabs flock to creeks, and the deep muddy bottom

My recommendation would be to get some sticks (long enough to stick out of the water).

Tie the handlines to the sticks, with a chicken neck on the end.  Then put the sticks in the water (into the mud) and throw the handlines out.  Then you can stand there with a net and pull in the lines and net the crabs.  That'll help you get closer to the middle of the creek...

Make sense?

there are alot of creeks and such but where my parents go to lounge and let my baby bro play in the sand is a sandy beech with a marsh along parts.  theres a few small streams that flow into the river  So Instead of baiting pots I was just looking for something to do.  with the stick method is there a way of telling whether or not the crabs have the lines tight?  the river is like a zero entry pool, just how deep do my necks need to be in order to draw crabs?

What do you mean by zero entry pool?

When you throw out the necks on the strings leave slack in them.  If the line gets tight, pull it in slowly.

Maybe add some washers to the string above the neck so that it doesn't move around without the crab tugging on it.

Or you could just spend your time hitting on girls at said beach.  You are 17, after all.  The "other" kind of crabs goes away with a razor and some shampoo.
