2 or 3 is good?Huh I thought we were doing something wrong with 30 traps out. We have been tossing alot back but no real small ones, they are just under size but I thought I would be getting more. I guess my memories from younger days of pulling up tons of crabs must be exaggerated in my mind since everything is more exciting, bigger, and better when your a kid! SOrry.....before this season I havbe not really crabbed in about 10 years. Maye more. I got into going fast with high horsepower big blocks and forgot all of the fun to be had fishing and crabbing!!!!
Your memory is fine it is nothing like it used to be Cry

sorry to high jack the thread (if that is how you spell hi or high jack) but I really thought I used to catch tons and tons of crabs in like 10 minutes. But I also thought a gallon of gas was like $.82. I guess I am getting old!

i think part of your problem was the spot you were crabbing.  i moved my line once, because i was loosing water with the tide and the crabs were slow.  i wasn't out near the mouth of the elk, i was crabbing further up the river, off of old field point rd.  as soon as i moved my line deeper i was hitting crabs like crazy.  averaging 6-8 keepers per run, but probably threw back twice as many each run.  that is probably what you were remembering as a kid.  tons of crabs... even if they weren't all keepers.

Hey Hook we were close enough to the mouth to see the lighthouse "green wood 16' boat" there were 2 other boats out there was one of them you? They just were not there! Talked to a guy that got towed in from the Cabin John Creek at 9am and he had 3dz also checked out the 3 other trotliners over there and they did not seem to doing too well also,I just don't think the area by the mouth was the hotspot last weekend as they shut off EARLY FRED

Give up on Aug 31st.  Everyone know's the season's over then.  Also, the crabbing in the ELK/BO goes way down around then too, don't waist you time.
