Beautiful morning with no wind and calm waters.  Water temperature was 66 degrees.  Started crabbing about 9:30 a.m. and stopped at 12:45 p.m.  Only caught 35 crabs (little over 1/2 bushel) with most crabs measuring about 6".  Had a few over 7" and two over 8".  Lots of small crabs and immature females.  Caught crabs from 5 feet to 30 feet.  Undecided   Also had a crab with either a deformed shell or a wound from a striped bass or something.  You could see the dead mans fingers (gills) under the shell and they were a dark color.  He was feisty as ever though.  Last picture is of my loyal crabbing partner.   love

That wound was most likely from a commercial guy calling them out.
I wont lie; when I worked on the commercial boat I was calling out 30bushels a day. Sometimes when you go from a dozen #1's and you come across a light... things can get a little messy.  Undecided
Nice dog too, I have a black lab.

Thank you and yes he loves the water.  We have a pond out in front of our house and he spends all his time in there chasing frogs and fish.

NO WAY. Unless you are that destructive. You're a newbie no doubt. That crab more than likely either got bit during shedding by fish, crab or birds. If they get stuck in sand while shedding the shell would be curved. If you are ripping points off the crabs to tell how hard they are, you don't know what you are doing along with wasting too much time culling crabs.

I think they have a new 'Crab Calling' category at the Waterfowl Festival in Easton this year.
