Tried Middle River Yesterday and Found it Sparse

Ken and I hit Middle River on Sunday, starting at 7:50 AM. DNR checked us at 7:30. Fairly nice lady officer! The week before, we pulled in 2 bushels. Yesterday was a different story. The lot was almost empty and we only saw a couple other crabbers all day. First run in 10' of water - zero. Second run - same story. Finally on the third run we got 1 or 2 crabs. Tried a few spots and ended with a dozen. A nice snack, but way short of a meal. I think they must have headed south during the week. Water felt fairly warm, but the crabs just disappeared in a week. The biggest one was 7 3/4". What a difference a week makes!!!!

We may try one more trip, further south like the Wye, but I can hear the fat lady starting to sing. The season may be coming to an end, sad but true! I have a few packs of meat in the freezer, but can't wait for next season. It was a strange year - sort of up one week and down the next. We tried several rivers to find the crabs when the Wye was slow. It must have been the drought and salinity issues,. plus a cool spring. I still love the Wye - it's beauty and mumbos, but we had to move to other rivers a few times this year. Good to meet a few of you! Take care and have fun!

same thing for me last sat on the Chester 2 bushels this week 3 + doz. go figure.  ;)Tomorrow who knows.
